Sun storms devastated the Earth in history

With a huge amount of energy, the Sun outbreaks have brought immeasurable harm even though millions of kilometers away.

When the Sun reaches its maximum energy level in its 11-year cycle, from active regions - known as sunspots - will fire massive charged particles that spread throughout the solar system. . And then, a small solar storm can temporarily cause radio interference and disrupt GPS positioning.

1. A terrible storm on Halloween

On October 28, 2003, the Sun released a terrible storm. This storm is so powerful that it upsets even the sensors of observing ships. This storm reaches level X45.

2. Bastolle Day event (National Day of France)

Bastille Day event is named after the French National Day (Bastille Day) on July 14, 2000. A X5-level solar storm made short-circuiting of some satellites and temporarily interrupted radio waves. This is the strongest solar storm since 1989.

3. Solar storm destroys the electrical system

In March 1989, 6 million people had to live in the dark for 9 hours due to the electric system in Canada that was damaged by the Sunstorm. Luckily, this storm did not happen on the coldest days in a very remote area like Canada. If not, thousands of people are at risk of death from cold death when the heating system is no longer operating due to a power outage.

4. Solar Storm destroys the telephone network

Also during the terrible storm of 1989, long-distance telephone systems through several states of the United States were also devastated. AT&T had to redesign the electrical system for cross-Atlantic cables.

5. Carringon event

In 1859, the Carrington (Carrington Event) event was the first recorded solar storm in the world. It happened at 11:18 am (10:18 pm in Vietnam time) on September 1 and was named after Rihard Carrington - astronomer witnessed this event through his telescope and sketched it (photo).

According to NASA scientists, it is also the largest recorded solar storm in 500 years. This solar storm caused brilliant aurora displays that stretched to the far south like the Caribbean. It also caused a few interruptions in global telegraph communications, even causing many telegraphs to touch and generating sparks from the wire that burned telegraphs.

6. Christmas storm in 2006

This X9 Sun Hurricane Battle interrupted satellite, ground and GPS communications for 10 minutes. Photographic equipment of GOES 13 satellite was also damaged when shooting the Sun.
