Super small nuclear battery

Widetronix, New York, has developed a betavoltaic battery that can run for up to 25 years and can power many small devices from military hardware to smartphone touch.

Unlike conventional chemical batteries, betavoltaic batteries or tiny nuclear batteries collect energy from radioactive sources like tritium.

This battery was developed by Widetronix, New York.

Betavoltaics batteries currently only provide power at nanowatts (1 nanowatt to 1 / billion watts) but Widetronix is beginning to research to create a chip that plays a role to create nuclear batteries that can provide one microwatt (1 / million watts) energy.

This battery can power small devices, such as devices that can be implanted in humans and help doctors monitor their health.

Betavoltaic batteries can support the development of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) that can integrate 'systems on a chip'. This type of battery is also concerned by the US military and used for some military equipment.

Widetronix still wants to test new nuclear isotopes like Promethium-147 as a more abundant source of energy for this future battery.

The first commercial product is expected to be launched soon in 2011, but most people will not recognize the tiny batteries that power their devices.
