Supporting research scientists on cloning

In Korea, the public has raised a wave of support for a scientist who studies Hwang Woo-suk cloning.

Picture 1 of Supporting research scientists on cloning Dr. Hwang left all official positions in cloning on Thursday after admitting the use of eggs by junior colleagues in the experiment.

This is considered unethical because egg donors may be under pressure.

Currently hundreds of women volunteered to donate eggs to Mr. Hwang's research team. Thousands of people have also sent messages to support him on Internet forums.

Some companies say they are stopping advertising on TV shows that have investigated the report on Dr. Hwang.

Dr. Hwang has been considered a national hero since successfully replicating a human embryo last year, a step forward in research that is said to help treat many diseases in the future.

In cloning, female eggs will be combined with DNA from cells taken from those who want to clone and combine to create the embryo.

These embryonic stem cells will be used to treat heart disease or diabetes or Alzheimer's.
