"They called me a metal warehouse , " Requelme Abanto told reporters while lying in bed in Cajamarca City Hospital in northern Peru on 11/11 after an almost two-hour operation.
Carlos Delgado, a hospital surgeon, said that he and his colleagues felt stunned when they saw nails, coins, copper wires and metal debris in Abanto's stomach.
"When Abanto was hospitalized with severe abdominal pain on Wednesday we thought he had appendicitis. But then we found a hole in his stomach , " he told the AP.
Delgado said, experts will check if Abanto has any neurological problems. According to the Telegraph, the 26-year-old worker swallowed iron things for months. Abanto announced on Peru Channel 9 television that he could perform iron swallowing in public.
"I used to swallow 17 nails in February without dying. Among them were 5 nails 10 cm long. I swallowed them for a day," he said.
