Swipe your hand to ... switch TV channels

With a motion detection and webcam software, the day we left the remote control of the TV remote will not be far away.

Scientists at the technology research center at Toshiba Corp. in Cambridge have developed a technology that allows people to manipulate TVs with their hands, such as the right ear hands up (pause), touches (increase screen brightness), chin (decrease contrast), hands (channel shift).

The system consists of a motion detection software and a high resolution webcam. Software can recognize the user when they stand in front of the TV. If installed, it will automatically turn on the TV when you enter the room and go to your favorite channel.

Toshiba claims that its motion-recognition technology has reached a level where it can perfectly distinguish the color, shape and shape of the hand movement. Of course, because of non-humans, software also sometimes makes mistakes. For example, it often confuses hand-shaking and hand-holding.

However, Toshiba software can distinguish intentional movements of hands with unconscious actions.

According to Toshiba, their technology, which can be used with computers, will hit the market in the next five years.
