Tens of thousands of walruses lined up on the Alaskan coast

Global warming has caused Arctic sea ice to melt faster and tens of thousands of walruses have to crawl to the northwest coast of Alaska.

Biologist of the US Geological Survey, Anthony Fischbach, said at least 10,000 walruses are concentrated on 2 km of Alaska coast (USA).

Scientists worry that the weight of more than 1 ton of mature walruses will crush small walruses.

To protect the walrus, the US Department of Wildlife and Wildlife Management is trying to change its flight route so as not to scare the walrus. In addition, the government also called on local people not to hunt this animal.

The phenomenon of shore-up walrus also occurred in 2007 and 2009 when the Arctic sea ice was at or near the historic lowest.

Sea ice is an important place for walrus to live and rest. However, according to the director of the US National Snow and Ice Data Research Center, global warming has melted the Arctic ice in recent years and will continue in the near future. There is still no sign of the recovery of Arctic sea ice.
