Thousands of dolphins appear along the coast of South Africa
The migration of thousands of dolphins in a nearly 10,000-kilometer journey along the South African coast creates a breathtaking spectacle.
Dolphins dance through layers of sparkling waves off the coast of Port Alfred, South Africa.
They crossed the distance of about 6,000 miles (nearly 10,000 km) from Mossel Bay, along Tsitiskamma to the east beach of Eastern Cape Province.
They swim quite near the shore.
The couple photographer Silke and Rainer Schimpf followed the dolphins flock from February to August. They took about 440 hours and traveled 10,000km on the sea to take stunning photos of their spectacular migration.
The only non-animal dolphin migrates to the coast of South Africa. Many birds also perform the same journey.
If you look closely, we can spot some humpback dolphins.
The fish jumped out of the water, giving off white foam.
The flock migration helps dolphins protect each other if the enemy attacks and also helps them communicate and search for food during the journey.
