Dolphins die massively along the US coast

Since early this year, nearly 230 dead dolphins have been discovered along the coast of US states such as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia.

The US National Oceanic and Environmental Research Agency said that the number of dead dolphins in the country has exceeded the average annual number of times and reached the highest level in 26 years. For example, in 2012 only more than 110 dolphins landed and died.

According to the agency, special research needs to be done, because the series of dolphins die in large numbers may indicate serious environmental pollution and will be detrimental to human health and prosperity.

When washed ashore, dolphins cannot return to the ocean without human help and die after a few hours of stranding. Usually only dolphins are weak, sick or injured, just drift to the shore.

Scientists believe that this mass die-off dolphin could be poisoned, but the final conclusion must wait for the analysis of the dolphins' tissue samples.
