The Alliance for the Protection of Asian Dogs was established

The ACPA will focus on hotspots in the worldwide dog trading market, especially dog supplies from Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos into Vietnam. According to conservation experts, dog meat products have evolved from a small household business, into a multi-million dollar industry for dog smugglers.

Dog trafficking is also directly related to outbreaks of diseases such as helminths, cholera, and rabies. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that dog trafficking is an agent of rabies outbreaks in Indonesia and cholera in Vietnam.

Mr. Tuan Bendixsen, Chief Representative of the Asian Animal Organization in Vietnam said that the dog meat trade has promoted the transport of a large number of illegal dogs with unknown disease status, and uncontrolled vaccination. .
