The Blue Origin company might be able to space visitors this year
Jeff Bezos's aerospace company said it is likely that visitors may travel into space with Blue Origin in 2018.
Bob Smith, CEO of Blue Origin, spoke with CNBC at the 34th Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Tuesday. When asked, "Will you plan to take space travelers out of space before this year ends?"
"We hope so," Smirth answered optimistically. "We think we can still do it this year."
However, Smith stressed that "whether in every step of the way, or in the course of practical operations, we will do it when we are ready, and we want to make sure that this is really safe for our passengers ".
At the end of December, Jeff Bezos also shared a video from Blue Origin's rocket, which was shot with a dummy inside. This mannequin was named Mennequin Skywalker .
The compartment is being developed to put people on a 15-meter-wide space, and there's room for six people, according to Blue Origin's website. This compartment: "big enough to let you float freely and tumble in a weightless environment", according to the company ad.
Blue Origin said: "When the main engine is off, your compartment will be separated from the pedestal, and complete silence will envelop you. You will remove the seat belt and experience the freedom of the environment. no gravitation".
The website also said that the chamber would then land on the ground, slowed by parachute.
Tourists exploring space must travel to West Texas 2 days before the launch. During the day before the launch, the passengers will have to undergo safety training sessions, simulations and instructions on how to move in a weightless environment of space.
Although the company has not yet announced the price, in 2017, Fast Company estimated a trip with Blue Origin that could cost between $ 100,000 and $ 200,000 per person.
