Joel Singletary caught the giant green catfish with multiple hooked strings on the Choctawhatchee on April 23, according to Fox News. At first, Joel wasn't sure if he could drag the fish into the boat, but then the excitement helped him gain more strength to wrestle with it.

The green catfish weighs 55kg, 1.7 times the current Florida state record of nearly 32kg. Despite breaking the record, Joel's fish was not recognized because Joel did not catch it with the usual fishing rod, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC). However, Joel is still awarded the "Big Fish" certificate because the catfish weighs more than 11kg.

Green catfish, called Ictalurus furcatus, is one of the largest catfish species in North America, belonging to the family Ictaluridae. They are found in Mexico and the United States. This species can be 165cm long and weighs 68kg, mainly distributed in the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Arkansas river drainage systems. Green catfish are opportunistic predators and will eat any fish they catch, along with crayfish, freshwater mussels, frogs. Some green catfish have attacked divers.
