A British fishing enthusiast set a new world record after catching albino catfish weighing up to 88.2 kg and 2.4 meters long at the Ebro river, near Barcelona, Spain. .
Chris Grimmer had to ask the help of two other friends to be able to lift this giant to the surface to take souvenir photos before bringing him back to the river safely.

This is considered one of the largest catfish in the world that humans have ever caught and it is also the largest albino catfish ever known.
The largest catfish record in the world was recorded in 2005 when a Thai person caught a catfish weighing 293 kg on the Mekong River.
In October 2007, a Cambodian citizen caught a 204-kg catfish, 2.4 meters long at the Tonlep Sap River, a tributary of the Mekong River.

In 2003, the giant catfish species living on the Mekong River were listed on the World Conservation Union's list of critically endangered species after published research results showed the number of fish species. This has decreased by at least 80% since 1990 until that time.
Part of the cause is the over-fishing and the construction of dams on the Mekong that make this giant fish lose shelter and reproduction.
