The culprit makes the body stink

The proteins, fats produced by the body and the growth of bacteria are the main causes of human body odor.

George Preti, an organic chemist at Monell's Center for Chemical Induction in Philadelphia, USA, said the odor on the human body is partly influenced by genetic factors , according to Popular Science.

Accordingly, the gene determines the type of molecule and the amount that your body releases. Different areas of the body create a specific secretion, while also containing a distinct bacterium that contributes to the formation of odors.

The human body has two types of sweat glands that are eccrine and apocrine . The eccrine gland is ubiquitous, often producing sweating that contains mainly water. Their goal is to cool the body when you are exposed to high temperatures or exercise. In contrast, apocrine glands are located only in small areas of the body, such as the armpits. They usually release protein and fat. These molecules are the main culprits that create unpleasant odors.

Apocrine glands sweat secretes more if you are worried. This is what causes the sweat you create when stress smells better than usual. In addition, all small bacteria that live on the skin also interact with the body in different forms and they are all capable of causing odors.

Preti said some spicy foods like curry, onion and garlic contain fat-soluble compounds. They are usually released through sweat and make you smell more unpleasant. To overcome this problem, we can use deodorants and antiperspirants to limit body odor.
