The device converts solar energy into fuel

US and Swiss scientists have successfully developed a machine capable of converting solar energy into fuel.

The operating principle of the machine is based on the convergence of the sun's rays into a metal oxide called Ceria that separates hydrogen atoms from water.

Applying Ceria in this study is very necessary because of their natural nature of removing oxygen at high temperatures and absorbing oxygen at low temperatures.

Therefore, if water is pumped into and simultaneously cooled, Ceria plates will absorb oxygen and release hydrogen. The gas can be used for cars powered by hydrogen fuel, or mixed with carbon monoxide to form a synthetic gas.

However, the performance of this device at present is very low, only at 0.7-0.8%. Scientists are confident that, in the future, they will be able to increase their productivity by 19 percent, providing enough fuel for normal operations.

Hopefully, in the near future, this machine will be widely used in human life to solve the 21st century's difficult problem.
