The first ionosphere probe appeared in Tomsk
Tomsk University scientists have designed a unique ionosphere probe that the world does not yet have. Super-fast radar will allow for a few seconds to capture a series of data on the status of Earth's upper atmosphere, increasing the quality of weather forecasting and ensuring reliable radio communication.
The ionosphere - the upper shell of the planet - strongly impacts radio transmissions. The ionosphere negatively affects telecommunications. The signals can be stable at one point of the Earth before noon, but in the evening they suddenly disappear or become noisy.
Digital ionosphere detectors are responsible for helping to avoid this factor: the data that the crawler is very important for broadcasting, the operation of military agencies and security forces. Mr. Maxim Pikalov, lecturer of Tomsk Federal University of Radio Physics Department, a member of the patent group answered the interview with Sputnik station. According to him, the ionosphere probe will suggest the best frequencies and working times.
'The more devices are deployed in the territory, the more predictable the parameters of the ionosphere will be, enabling quality broadcast schedules. For example, at this frequency during the day there was contact, but the signal was interrupted because the parameters of the ionosphere changed. The waves at this frequency are not reflected and escape into space. Need to switch to another frequency. The ionosphere is the resonator that releases the radio waves back to the ground . "
At Tomsk, the ionosphere probe worked in a radius of 100km around the city. Thanks to it, for the first time the ionosphere observation operation is automated, without the operator. Unlike current analog devices that are essentially digital, Tomsk's probes are completely digital. Improved workability of the device: has the best speed, allowing more accurate data collection and capturing three-dimensional images of the ionosphere. Radar only needs one second to set up a communication session. Thus, it not only allows for precise identification of changes in the ionosphere, but also minimizes the impact of the device on electromagnetic fonts, the expert said.
'Existence of the concept of' electromagnetic environment ': means we do not hinder broadcast stations in this band. It all happened so fast that radiation was almost impossible to detect. Television and radio use shortwave bands, our device does not affect broadcast activity. This is important '.
The Russian meteorological agency has expressed interest in the invention. The new ionosphere detector allows for quick and accurate predictions about the impacts of solar and magnetic fields. There are plans to deploy these devices in the Moscow suburbs in early 2015. According to the inventors, the ability to supply equipment for the Russian defense industry complex and some specialized research institutes also is being discussed.
