The inventive high school girl tried the Ebola virus for 30 minutes

With a project on how to identify the Ebola virus, which is fast, stable and least expensive, high school student Olivia Hallisey convinced Google jury to bring her the highest award.

Olivia Hallisey and how to identify Ebola virus quickly, least costly

According to Hallisey's description, the current methods of determining Ebola are complex and expensive, in which the sample must be kept cold and the results are only available after 12 hours.

Therefore, Hallisey invented a new test method within 30 minutes.

Hallisey uses antibodies and basic chemicals that can change color if there is an Ebola protein present in the sample.

A special feature is that Hallisey uses silk fibers to stabilize chemicals on the test card, which allows them to survive in room temperature for up to 3 weeks and still produce accurate test results.

These fibers are tested on paper with only one sample of serum and water.

With this unique method, Hallisey has greatly increased the speed and efficiency of Ebola virus testing. This is very important for patients, when early detection of the Ebola germ can help them increase their survival.

Not only that, Hallisey said her method could also be used to identify HIV, malaria, yellow fever, Lyme disease and even cancer.

With the superiority of this invention, Olivia Hallisey - a high school student at Greenwich College in Connecticut - won a convincing victory over 22 other candidates at the 5th Google Science Fair in California.

This fair is organized to challenge generations of young potential scientists from 13 to 18 years old from all over the world.

This year, the Fair received inventions from thousands of contestants from all over the world, and selected the 22 best individuals to participate in the final round.

This year's fair also recognizes Ahmed Mohamed's special participation, a young Muslim boy in Texas who was arrested for bringing a watch made by the boy himself.
