French scientists on October 21 said they have just completed a new device that allows within 15 minutes to quickly diagnose patients suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus.

In a statement, the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) said tests on new instruments were conducted in a standard laboratory and the breakthrough was technologically valuable.

The mechanism of action of the device is to detect antibodies in the smallest sample such as a drop of blood, plasma or urine of the patient. If the patient has a positive result for Ebola virus, the device's screen will show a signal line.

This is the simplest Ebola virus diagnostic device ever, without any need to add any other supporting device. Almost all tests to detect Ebola virus now take more than 2 hours to produce results and must be done in the laboratory.

However, the new device has not been approved by French medical authorities. Vedalab - a European pharmaceutical company is looking to convert this test kit to a handy tool called Ebola eZYSCREEN .

CEA said scientists from the agency have begun studying the device since mid-August - the time when the Ebola virus is worsening in West African countries like Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The above groundbreaking scientific achievement is part of the previous study on Ebola by the French Ministry of Defense and is part of its anti-bioterrorism program.
