The machine predicts the future

The US Department of Defense is funding a project to create an artificial intelligence monitoring system, with the ambition to predict the future.

According to a project like in CBS's popular TV series, Person of Interest , the Phys.org page reported on the research with the breakthrough potential of the experts. Carnegie Mellon University (USA). In a research sponsored by the Pentagon, the team of scientists introduced an artificial intelligence system capable of tracking and predicting a person's future actions. Just like in the film Minority Report starring Tom Cruise, the software makes the system's brain designed specifically to analyze data directly from multiple camera sources. From there, immediately identify and inform officials related to suspicious behavior, such as the camera at the airport or bus station, to detect a "sensitive" bag .

Carnegie Mellon's team offers a complex infrastructure of high-level artificial image intelligence, called the Cognitive Machine . Specifically, the report describes the basic types of actions and interprets the purpose of that action. For example, in case the bag is left at the bus stop or the airport, will its owner deliberately leave it or simply forget it. The goal of the study is to create an artificial intelligence system similar to human visual intelligence, allowing computers to make effective and consistent findings.

Experts note that humans evolve because of their ability to learn to adapt and respond appropriately to their surroundings. Over time, humankind is equipped with excellent skills in filtering and synthesizing data collected from senses, thereby making decisions and reactions based on basic information as well as background knowledge. Therefore, these computer image algorithms need to be supplemented with higher-level tools for analysis related to reasoning and presentation of knowledge in ambiguous conditions.

Machine Awareness is the core structure of the Extended Operational Reasoning System (EAR) developed by Carnegie Mellon University. This artificial intelligence builder has the ability to filter tracked images to support executives who are human. It automatically alerts in case of suspicious actions or objects, as in the case of a person dropping a large bag at home keeping the car and running away. The application of the new system is not only suitable for military purposes but also for civilian needs, according to SC Magazine UK magazine reviews by the Carnegie Mellon expert team.

The original version of the system is still under construction in the US. In Europe, experts are conducting similar research with efforts to analyze and predict images. The EU-funded Indect project is developing algorithms for use with existing observation systems. Indect also researches threat warning technologies, such as detecting child pornography cases on the internet.
