The machine reads a whisper

American scientists show that they can understand what other people are thinking by using a reading device.

The reading device was developed by a team from the University of California. It allows people to understand the whispering voice in someone else's head, which transforms the brain's activity into sound and speech, the Telegraph reported.

"If you are reading text in a newspaper or book, you will hear the voice in your head." We are trying to decipher the voice activity of the brain, thereby creating a device. Medical help for people with paralysis (not oral talk) can communicate with others, " study author Brian Pasley told New Scientist.

The team recorded the brain activity of seven people who underwent epilepsy surgery, as they read aloud and whispered in their heads the lyrics of Humpty Dumpty , or the inauguration speech of late US President John F Kennedy.

When the volunteer reads aloud, a special computer program will record information from brain neurons that react with sound to produce spectral images. At the moment, the nerve cell will have the same response, this time the decoder will "compile" the previously saved image into a clear message.

Although scientists are still in the beta stage and there is still room for improvement. However, the team hopes to create a perfect "thinking machine " in the future.
