The most beautiful wild photos 2007

Published yesterday at London's Museum of Natural History, the following five award-winning photos were selected from 32,000 photos taken by professional and amateur photographers from 78 countries.

The picture depicting a male elephant crossing a splashing mud-water beach won the top prize in the 2007 Shell Wildlife Photographer contest. British author Ben Osborne spent 3 weeks watching in Chobe National Park in Botswana. Hiding in his car, he captures animals when they come to drink in a small puddle during the dry season.

Photographer Paul Nicklen photographed from above images of unicorns resting in an ice lake outside the Arctic island of Baffin."When they breathe, they must be very careful not to hurt other children by long tusks ," he said.

American photographer Amos Nachoum said he spent two years waiting for a picture of a white shark hunting. His patience paid off when he snapped back the moment that this predator grabbed the prey tied behind Nachoum's boat.

The rubber bait simulates a seal. The area is known as the Death Ring and surrounds the Seal Island in False Bay of South Africa. White sharks come here mainly to hunt the sea bridge. " These attacks are often unexpected and take less than a second ," Nachoum said.

The pristine South Georgia between Antarctica was beautifully carved under the photographic talent of American Robert Knight. He said he saw this scene from afar while a storm was approaching. " From our boat we see a wonderful scene of blue borders and tips. The challenge is how to capture such a wild scene while the waves hit the side of the boat and splashing water on people ".

To win this noble award, 11-year-old Patrick Corning, no need to leave the house he rented during a vacation in Costa Rica last year. The boy took a picture of 3 monkeys squirming and picking fruit in nearby trees, from his balcony.

" It is interesting to see a monkey pulling another monkey's ear. I hurriedly mutter to the monkeys: Don't move ."

Squirrel monkeys are native animals in Mexico and South America. They live in large swarms, and in the daytime, they break into small groups looking for food like insects, fruits and seeds.
