The most miserable tribe on the planet

Although in the middle of the rainy season, almost all the rivers in the Turkana inhabited area in northern Kenya are dry, without a drop of water . Thousands of animals died, the rest were only camels, goats and donkeys. The main task of this tribe is to find water every day to maintain survival.

The drought is more serious when the last time it rains in this area 4 years ago. Everyday, from morning to night, the women in the village had to walk for tens of kilometers, digging their bare hands to find water to bring back to their families. It is an overview of the lives of the people of the Turkana tribe - which is experiencing the most severe water shortage on Earth. Here people are struggling every day to survive.

There have been cases of sacrificing life when searching for water. Most recently, a woman was killed when a 4m deep pit suddenly collapsed, burying the woman taking water from below.

According to the Turkana tradition, the dead's body cannot be moved, because it will result in a curse. Therefore, the woman's body is still beneath the water hole - although this hole is the hope of the whole family.

Here, women - including pregnant women - must walk about 19km daily to find water. If successful, they could get about 20 liters of water, put it in a bucket, put it on their heads and bring it home for their husbands, children and cattle. An average Turkana family has about 10 children.

In Labei village 80km southeast of the town of Lodwar, a young woman in traditional tribal clothes is trying to lift a bucket of water from a deep pit about 3.6m which has just been dug by hand and a small tomorrow People named this new excavation hole as Sasak Echoke . According to the villagers, Sasak Echoke's internal water will be enough to supply people for several days.

Above the hole, men and young children were pouring buckets of water into makeshift troughs for camels, goats and donkeys. This is the origin of this nomadic tribe. Their goats and blood are the main source of food for the tribe.

The Turkana tribe is the second largest pastoral community in Kenya, just behind the Maasais and currently living in one of the harshest places on Earth. Turkana women often wear a similar hairstyle and only shave their heads when their husbands die. They beautify themselves with colorful beads and will not remove the necklace because they believe that if they do, they will get sick or their loved ones will suffer.

It is known that the Turkana tribe followed polygamy. Camels are often used as dowry when a man wants to marry a woman.

Men get many wives because they can afford to take care of many people, and girls in the family will marry other people as soon as they reach puberty, although under Kenyan law, both men and women must be sufficient 18 years old to get married.

Pets can also be sold in exchange for weapons - to protect the tribe from attacks from other groups for the purpose of robbing pets. Village men often have to take cattle far to the border with Uganda to graze, so conflict is common.

Nakunyuko Lomaritoi - a Turkana woman with 8 children - said she lost her daughter two days ago while looking for water.'I have 46 donkeys and lead them for 4km to find water, but I lost my son in the middle of the road. Fortunately, we found the child still alive and the mother and daughter were reunited, ' Nakunyuko said.

In the same situation, but less fortunate, a man in the village said his son died when the family went out to graze cattle and the house was out of water.

For villagers, the concept of climate change for them is a completely unfamiliar thing. Therefore, many people still believe that drought is caused by a mysterious curse and need sacrifice to save people from drought. Therefore, many men in the village committed suicide as a form of sacrifice to solve the curse.

'From morning to night everyone has to fight to find water. At home the kids will cook the blood of camels and goats for the main meal every day, ' said Lomaritoi.

Estimated, the average life expectancy of the Turkana tribe is only 50.
