The Daily Star reported yesterday that this 20cm-long black fish has a monstrous head, sharp teeth and an eel-like body. According to local fishermen, the animal is most likely a mutant individual of the Chinese goby , also known as Amur goby. This is a freshwater fish breed that lives in the Amur River basin in eastern Asia.

Chinese gobies are popular in Russia since the 1940s and are mainly raised in fish tanks. However, some people said they put fish into rivers and drainage systems when they become too big. According to local experts, Chinese gobies exist and grow in many Russian reservoirs.

However, some people seem to disagree with the fishermen's judgment and believe that this strange creature could be a mutant European piranha or eel.
