The 'return' of missing aircraft in history
Most of these missing planes were found after quite a long time.
>> The mystery of the plane cases suddenly went missing
It has been nearly a year since Malaysia Airlines Airlines flight MH370 was lost with 239 passengers while traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
So far, the outcome of this aircraft is still in mystery. The disappearance of the MH370 has become one of the strange mysteries of aviation.
However, such strange, long-lost plane cases are not uncommon, and they almost all end up finding fragments.
Check out the incomplete "returns" of the missing aircraft according to the general list of Mentalfloss below.
1. Items in the aircraft of the first female pilot to fly across the Atlantic alone found on Nikumaroro island after 70 years of disappearance
Perhaps the most famous missing plane belonged to Amelia Earhart - the woman always wanted to fulfill her dream of becoming the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic
So on July 3, 1937, she drove the Lockheed L-10E Electra and Fred Noonan's navigator flying from Lae (New Guinea) in an effort to make the flight around the world. Unfortunately, Amelia Earhart's plane has been lost and she has been missing since.
There are many theories about Earhart's fate given after her disappearance. Most people thought that her plane ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean. Others claim that Earhart landed on an island and died of starvation, thirst, injury or due to falling into Japanese hands on Saipan island.
After 70 years of searching in vain, it was not until 2007 that the international aircraft salvage group (TIGHAR) discovered some personal belongings of two people on Gardner Island (currently Nikumaroro Island).
Over the years, they have found many artifacts such as evidence of campfire, Plexiglas pieces and a bottle of lotion that Earhart used.
2. After 17 years, Lady B.Good aircraft was discovered in the Libyan desert
A US B-24D aircraft named Lady Be Good went missing during an air raid in Italy on April 4, 1943. This is the first mission of both the aircraft and the crew. Lady Be Good is the only vehicle in the fleet that cannot return to its base in Libya.
Authorities at the time said the plane had fallen into the Mediterranean Sea. An exploration survey was conducted, but no one saw any sign of Lady B.Good.
In 1958 an oil exploration team took pictures of the air and discovered the plane in the Libyan desert. Although destroyed, the fragments of the fuselage are well preserved in the desert's hot dry climate.
Unexpectedly, the radio and several other devices of the aircraft still work well but the search team did not detect any signs of the crew.
In 1959, the local government continued to organize a search for the crew that lasted a month but had no results and had to abandon it. It was not until 1960 - 17 years after the plane disappeared, the remains of 8 of the 9 members were found scattered in the desert.
Along with that, the authorities also found objects - the diary of the assistant Robert Toner revealed details about the story after the plane crashed. Nine people jumped out of the plane in the accident and luckily, eight people survived.
The survivors walked about 136km before five people gave up and the three continued to walk until they collapsed. The body of the machine gun owner Vernon L. Moore was never found.
3. The Helldiver aircraft sunk below Lower Otay Lake for 64 years
On May 28, 1945, the US Navy Helldiver, SB2C-4, fell into the Lower Otay reservoir near San Diego. ED aircraft
Frazar and Joseph Metz, now on their way, are suddenly damaged by the aircraft's engine and they fall down with their aircraft.
The two tried to swim ashore but the Helldiver was buried at the bottom of the lake. In 2009 (after 64 years of disappearance), Duane Johnson and Curtis Howard accidentally discovered the body of the plane while fishing here.
Authorities mobilized a rescue company to salvage the plane after decades of being buried in mud.
4. The Piper Cherokee "hidden" 32 years in Yoshemite National Forest
On July 19, 1962, a 1959 Piper Cherokee was responsible for transporting four young men home from a campaign in Fresno (California) that did not reach the destination of Sacramento.
The body of the plane is said to have fallen into Yoshemite National Forest and it has been there forever for 32 years. In 1994, a park worker discovered the wreckage of an airplane in an area almost isolated from the national forest - Stubblefield Gorge.
Based on the information and personal belongings found, authorities have determined that this is the ill-fated plane carrying four victims each year. The place found the body of the plane so isolated that they had to use mules to carry the debris out.
5. The aircraft 232 was discovered at Chimborazo mountain after 26 years of sleep
On August 15, 1976, a Vickers Viscount 785D aircraft with the number 232 took off in Quito (Ecuador) to depart for Cuenca but on the way, the air station had lost the signal of the aircraft. .
Many searches were performed but no sign of the plane or 55 passengers and 4 astronauts were found.
Many people believe that the plane may have crashed on the volcano Chimborazo or was attacked by Colombian fighters. Twenty-six years later, in 2002, the wreckage of this aircraft was finally found.
They are scattered hundreds of meters on the slopes of Chimborazo. Many people believe that it is because the glaciers on the mountains melt so these fragments have the opportunity to be revealed and discovered after all these years.
