Recent research by scientists from Athens Medical University (Greece) shows that coffee in this country may be a clue to open 'longevity art'.

Elderly residents of the Greek island of Ikaria are proud that it has the highest proportion of elderly people in the world. Only 0.1% of Europeans have a life expectancy of over 90 but on Ikaria island, this figure is 1%, which is ten times as much. And scientists often come to them whenever they want to search for 'longevity secret'.

Gerasimos Siasos, professor of medicine at Athens Medical University, Greece and colleagues is no exception. Only thing, the result of their research has caused many people to be shocked by the ' longevity art' right in front of our eyes, in the form of . a cup of hot coffee.

The team of researchers conducted a study of 673 people living long on the island of Ikaria, aged over 65. They then randomly selected 71 men and 71 women to conduct further tests.

Scientists check health and use questionnaires to get detailed information about health and lifestyle. In addition, they also examined the function of endothelial cells, cell types that participate in many different processes in the body such as immunity, coagulation, development, regulating blood flow .

Interestingly, more than 87% of the people studied drank hot Greek coffee daily. More significantly, those who drink Greek coffee have better endothelial function than those who drink other types of coffee. Even Greek coffee is good at the endothelial function of people with high blood pressure.

'Greek coffee is rich in polyphenols, antioxidants and contains only moderate amounts of caffeine. Greek coffee offers more benefits than other coffees, ' Professor Siasos said.

This study is an interesting starting point for subsequent studies to further explore the mechanism of coffee's impact on human heart health. Coffee is currently the most popular drink in the world and after this study, its position has been greatly enhanced.
