The sparkling glass beach is in danger of disappearing
Being taken back by tourists as souvenirs with natural abrasion makes Glass beach, where there are sparkling glass pebbles at risk, disappear after two more decades.
Glass Beach is located in Ussuri Bay , near Vladivostok city, Russia is one of the most exotic beaches in the world. Instead of white, or yellow sand, running along the coast with the usual blue water, Glass sparkles with the color of 'glass pebbles'.(Photo: Anna Pozharskaya / The Siberian Times).
It used to be a garbage dump, concentrating many glass bottles, mainly old vodka, wine and beer bottles along with pottery in the Soviet era.(Photo: The Siberian Times).
Waves and tides broke these bottles.Over time, sharp edges are worn out, becoming plump like small pebbles.(Photo: The Siberian Times).

However, experts are warning that these colorful "gems" sparkling beaches risk disappearing in less than a generation.(Photo: The Siberian Times).
According to Professor Petr Brovko, of the Far Eastern National University, who has worked hard on studying Glass Beach, the beach is like a gift of nature, a way that nature corrects the mistake of throwing human waste .(Photo: The Siberian Times).
Glass attracts a lot of visitors every summer, but the beach with pebbles glittering like gems can disappear forever, in just two more decades. One reason is that visitors take it back as souvenirs.(Photo: The Siberian Times).
However, the problem is not simply the loss of glass jewelry.Natural factors also contribute to this risk.(Photo: The Siberian Times).
The professor of the Far Eastern National University said the waves and wind would erode the glittering appearance of the beach. 'It can be seen that glass pebbles are much smaller today than they were 20 years ago,' said Petr Brovko.(Photo: The Siberian Times).
Professor Petr Brovko worries that after only a short time, this beach will remain inert sand and gravel, just like other beaches in the world, unless there are new glass bottles poured out here. However, the government currently has no plans for this.(Photo: Yulina Savkina / The Siberian Times).
