In the first quarter of this year, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will start the world's most sustainable city construction project with an initial investment cost estimated at US $ 5 billion. Located near the Abu Dhabi International Airport with an area of ​​6 km 2 , ' Masdar City ' will have no waste, no air emissions and especially no car silhouette.

No waste is caused by 99% of waste, municipal waste water will be treated for reuse in agriculture and energy production. Air emission is because 100% of electricity is supplied from clean energy sources, which can be regenerated such as solar energy, wind energy . Meanwhile, construction works will use materials. When the city is completed in 2015, 15,000 people and 50,000 employees here will use electricity generated from photovoltaic panels while the air conditioning system is powered by solar energy. According to Future Energy Company Abu Dhabi (Masdar), the project investor, the city's water supply will be provided by a solar-powered seawater desalination plant. Trees in the city and gardens in the suburbs will be irrigated with treated wastewater.

With the greenest urban project in the world, the UAE - the fifth largest oil producer in the world - is looking to become an " elder " in the field of development of alternative energy sources, in parallel with cutting the amount. Greenhouse gas emissions currently stand at 34.1 tons / person, the third highest in the world after Qatar and Koweit.
