The US dropped the ban on funding for stem cell research
US President Barack Obama signed an order to abolish budget restrictions on stem cell research, in appreciation of the scientific community.

Speaking after signing the order yesterday, Mr. Obama affirmed that this is only part of an effort to reduce political intervention in science.
Each type of cell in the adult body has its own functions. Embryonic stem cells can develop into all kinds of cells. Scientists claim that stem cells taken from the fetus can help people cure many diseases, from diabetes, blindness to polio.
However, religious organizations claim that taking embryonic stem cells is immoral because it can destroy a life.
In 2001, US President George W. Bush issued a ban on funding stem cell research with the federal government's budget. Now, Mr. Obama overturned that decision.
"The previous government thinks that stem cell research goes against moral values. In this case, I believe that true science and moral values are not in conflict with each other. As a religious believer. We all have a responsibility to care for others and to work to reduce the suffering that disease causes for people, " the US president said.
Before the witness of scientists, people with serious diseases and MPs, Obama also signed a memorandum to limit government intervention in scientific research activities.
"We need to ensure that scientific data will not be distorted or concealed for political purposes," he stressed.
Science, politics and religion have long had a close relationship in the lives of Americans. With the decision to remove financial restrictions on stem cell research, Obama showed that he was more interested in science than religion compared to former President Bush. However, science policymakers admit that politics still plays a role in science.
