Blair Mase, Florida coordinator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Commission, said dead whales would be "taken to many Florida research labs to determine the cause of the incident. ".

Only 5 out of 22 whales are surviving after drifting to the coast, despite the rescue efforts of volunteers and experts.

There is currently no explanation for the incident, but Mase said experts are trying to analyze the data to see why whales are so stranded.

Mr Mase added that surviving whales are "in a stable state and able to swim". These whales are now being treated at the Oceanographic Institute of Harbor Branch and will be transferred to SeaWorld in Orlando.

Meanwhile, a number of whale-based organizations in North America say that experts need to study the whale habitats in the area over time. Accordingly, whales are species that live in the herd and they will swim into a group when there is a sick one in the herd.
