The world's largest camera was created ... just to capture a panorama of a train

The world's largest camera was created in 1900 with the sole purpose of taking a picture of a train that was considered to be the most beautiful at the time.

In 1899, a new train called "The Alton Limited" was born in Pullman, Illinois, USA. The special thing is that this train is built and designed synchronously, creating symmetry quite special.

The impressive beauty of the design helped the ship become attractive in many people's eyes. To record the beauty of the train, the design team decided to create a giant camera, capable of capturing the whole train with the purpose of keeping as a souvenir.

The ship builders assigned the task to the photographer about George R. Lawrence in Chicago, USA.

At first, Lawrence intended to take photos in a partial fashion and put them together into panoramas while printing. But then, he decided to build a full-size camera to capture the entire train and above all increase the authenticity of the photo.

Lawrence wanted to create a camera that could capture a single picture on the mold of 2.4 x 1.3 meters.

Even so, making this large camera is not easy. Lawrence took two and a half months to complete it. Outside the camera is a natural cherry wood body, rubber tube with a black cloth inside.
