There is a vaccine for diarrhea when traveling

British scientists claim to have developed a vaccine to prevent diarrhea when traveling - one of the obsessions of millions of visitors each year.

Travel diarrhea is often caused by Enterotoxigenic escherichia coli (EEcoli). This bacterium is present everywhere, even in our large intestine.

New vaccines prepared by researchers at the University of Cambridge (UK) can help travelers fight bacteria that cause travel diarrhea.

According to the inventors, their vaccines not only help prevent EEcoli bacteria but also help create a protective shield against Salmonella - the culprit causing typhoid, another tourist obsession.

Professor Nigel Slater, head of the study, said: "Our vaccine is powdered so it is very stable and does not need to be refrigerated or have any problems related to needles. If you are going to go on holiday or work to India or any other country known to have diarrhea and typhoid, you only need to swallow a vaccine-containing capsule. "

Slater revealed, the team is planning a clinical trial of the new vaccine later this year.

In addition to working with pharmaceutical company Prokarium to develop a vaccine to prevent diarrhea when traveling, researchers also hope that dead cells will be vaccinated against other bacteria, including Clostridium difficile.

Because it does not need to be stored in a refrigerator, the new vaccine can be especially useful in developing countries, where traditional vaccine storage is sometimes difficult. Statistics show that each year about 200,000 people die from typhoid and up to 500,000 cases, mostly children, die from EEcoli bacteria.
