There is no apocalypse because of the volcano in 2012

Some people worry that a super volcano will "wake up" in 2012 and cause destruction across the planet, but the scientific community confirmed that risk will not happen.

Many volcanic eruptions in the past have caused terrible consequences on a global scale. A volcanic eruption that once caused a massive mass destruction disaster hundreds of millions of years ago. So some people predict that a super volcano will "wake up" next year and destroy life all over the world according to the 'prophecy' of the end of the ancient Mayan nation, Livescience reported.

A question arises: What volcano in the world is about to erupt? For scientists, the answer is: Don't think about that possibility.

Lascar volcano in northern Chile erupted in 1993 and liberated
Lava volume is about 1,000 m 3 . If that number increases
10,000 times, Lascar will become a super volcano.

Super volcanoes have the ability to release lava and ash thousands of times larger than conventional volcanoes. A super volcanic eruption could have consequences similar to the collision between the earth and a meteorite with a diameter of over 1,600 m. That means it can kill millions of people. Because the ash from volcanoes prevents sunlight, the temperature on the earth's surface will be reduced, resulting in disturbed ecosystems and climate.

The latest eruption of the volcano occurred about 74,000 years ago on Indonesia's Sumatra island. This is also the biggest eruption in 25 million years. Toba, the name of the super volcano, released a lava volume of up to 2,800 km 3 and a thick layer of ash above South Asia. Dozens of super volcanoes exist throughout the planet. Some super volcanoes are located at the bottom of the sea.

Scientists agree that the eruptions of super volcanoes are extremely rare. The probability of a mountain happens in a lifetime almost zero.

Geologists have identified the remnants of about 50 "super eruptions" . For ordinary people, the number 50 seems big. But many studies show that about 700,000 years of Earth witnessed a super volcano active. So in the history of 4.5 billion years of Earth, more than 6,400 super eruptions have occurred.

Drew Shindell, an expert at the Goddard Space Research Institute in the United States, said scientists regularly monitor regions with volcanoes active throughout the planet. They have not found any signs that a super eruption will occur in the next year or even in the near future.

'Certain super volcanoes that operate in the near future or throughout our lives are extremely small , ' Shindell said.

And in any case, people who believe in the danger of apocalypse should remember that the Mayans had never predicted that the volcano would erupt in 2012.
