Tiger is slaughtered by Indonesian villagers hanging on rafters

The Sumatran tiger was rarely killed when it was executed by the villagers on the Indonesian island, claiming it was the embodiment of the devil.

Indonesian villagers killed and slaughtered a Sumatra tiger on March 4, believing it to be a demon possessing supernatural powers, according to Fox News. The body of the tiger is an extremely dangerous species photographed when hanging on a crossbar in a public place in Hatupangan north of Sumatra island.

"Unfortunately, the villagers do not listen to us. They are determined to kill the tiger," said Hotmauli Sianturi, head of the Regional Natural Resources Conservation Agency. " After killing the animal, the locals hung their bodies for display. It was a pity."

Authorities investigated the incident of the tiger losing its fangs, claws and skin around the face and tail, all parts that could be used to cook high or sell on the black market, according to Reuters. According to animal activists, the tiger wanders in the area for more than a month and injures a person before being monitored and executed."People use the spear to slam into the tiger's stomach as it sleeps beneath a resident's floor , " said Lion Muslim Nasution, a cadre in Batang Natal ward.

The attack happened despite the many conservation officers who interfered with the people to spare the tiger. According to Nasution, the locals know the tiger belongs to the endangered animal group but they cannot overcome the rumors and fears about the hidden demon in the village. The authorities are not sure why the villagers claim that the tiger is actually a devil.

Only about 400 Sumatra tigers exist in nature, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)."In Indonesia, anyone caught with tiger hunting can face imprisonment and a heavy fine," WWF said.
