Veterinary experts from the US have come to Vietnam to share their research experiences on unknown diseases and animal diseases.

Scientists from the Smithsonian Institution, the University of Illinois, the United States and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) organize pathology seminars for experts from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, to discuss carefully The ability to recognize animal diseases is harmful to health.

The workshop was conducted within the framework of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project, part of the Emerging Pandemic Threat Program, which was initiated in 2009. The workshop took place from 17 to October 21.

'This is an important regional program, not only building the capacity of each country, but also contributing to the US government's Lower Mekong Initiative program , ' said Francis Donovan, USAID representative director in Vietnam said.

USAID expects this program to contribute to strengthening national, regional and local capacities for surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, and epidemiology in both animal and human health areas. These efforts are ultimately aimed at minimizing the risk of new and emerging epidemics.

About 75% of all new or re-emerging epidemics in the early 21st century affect people of animal origin, such as HIV / AIDS, acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and bird flu. and pandemic in 2009 H1N1 flu virus.
