T-shirts for small children

A group of high school girls in the United States invented a Watawescue t-shirt that is self-inflating when wet, to protect children from 2 to 4 years of age when swimming.

To achieve this, a float was attached to the fabric wrapped around the lower body of the sleeve. The alarm device and carbon dioxide (CO ₂ ) tube are placed in a small bag on the back of the T-shirt. CO ₂ gas is sealed by a water-soluble inductive coupler.

When it decomposes, the compressed air flows out and helps the buoy float. In the meantime, the alarm device will provide a signal to the parent or guard near the pool area. Watawescue only swells when wet so it will not affect the child when playing with water or shot milk into the shirt, greatly reducing the chance of accidental inflated.

The new Watawescue is in the form of an idea. The girls will receive a $ 10,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for the development of their product.
