Two new species of ginger show up in Vietnam

Vietnamese researchers and international colleagues have discovered two new species of ginger that have beautiful flowers in Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai province.

Newmania serpens NS Ly & Skornick and N. orthostachys NS Ly & Skornick are the names of two ginger species by scientists from the Vietnam Institute of Tropical Biology, Norwegian Natural History Museum, Singapore Botanical Garden, Museum Natural history He discovered under the semi-evergreen forest canopy of Dau family in Nghia Hanh district, Quang Ngai.

These two species belong to the Newmania NS Ly & Skornick variety. Their common characteristics are quite weak prostheses, purple white flowers, growing from rhizomes across the ground. Newmania serpens have weak stalks, maximum altitudes can reach 100cm, usually carry 10-15 leaves, thin leaf blades, narrow ellipses, prominent leaf veins, sparse, weak, growing field bulls ground, purple lips with bright red streaks and white stripes on the bottom and middle of the plate.

In contrast, the Newmania orthostachys species has a stronger body, 60-80cm height, carries 5-8 leaves, thick leaf blade, an elliptical ovoid, and the veins are hard to see, flowers are tight and erect, purple lips with white stripes at the bottom and middle of the lips.

The findings of the expert group are published in the Taxon magazine published by the International Classification Association.

Ginger is a perennial herb family, with horizontal beef or tuber rhizomes, including 47 genera and about 1,000 species. Since ancient times people have used ginger to make ornamental plants, spices and herbs. Turmeric, galangal, ginger, nutmeg and sage are the most important members of the Ginger family.
