Unique 'amphibian' house is not afraid of flooding in the West

The "amphibian" house has a unique floating system that can float when the water rises and return to the beginning when the water recedes is the ideal solution for people in the West who face floods every year.

A western guy has researched, designed, built, successfully tested amphibious houses, has a unique floating system that helps the house to rise when the water rises and return to the beginning when the water recedes.

Particularly affordable but durable, this design can adapt to floods and natural disasters so it is suitable for the majority of people in the Mekong Delta.

The author of the model is Nguyen Minh Hoan g, 27 years old, in Thanh My commune, Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province. Born and raised in floating waters, Hoang's childhood was associated with many floods when the upstream floodwaters came.

In addition, the young man always worries and worries about difficult situations and unsafe living conditions when furniture is swept away or engulfed in floods when natural disasters strike. Therefore, Hoang is determined to design a house that is both comfortable on land and suitable for the lake surface when the river level rises suddenly.

Thinking that he did, after a period of searching and combining with the knowledge on the lecture hall of Western Construction University (Vinh Long province), Hoang completed and presented a floating house with a beautiful, comfortable and wide design. 48m2 with front hallway, 2 bedrooms, restroom, a living room and integrated dining room.

The house is implemented with a green architecture solution combining wind and water conditions, cooling the building with ventilation, natural lighting. The total construction cost is nearly VND 300 million and the project life ranges from 30-50 years.

Minh Hoang said that the base and wooden floor of the house are raised higher than the ground. In the dry season, the house is placed on the ground as usual. During the flooding season, when the water rises, the plastic drums below the floor structure along with the floating system will make the house float safely and simply.

Floating details are simple design but bring high safety effect. The principle of operation of the parts will be based on the law of thrust Archimedes. Accordingly the house will emerge without the cost to operate. As a result, water will not cause any damage to the above project, residents can safely live in the house and do not need to relocate furniture.

Hoang shared that the house is suitable for many different terrains such as land, riverside or lakes. In particular, for disadvantaged areas, the implementation cost can vary depending on the homeowner's economy, ranging from VND 70-100 million for a complete house.

In addition, the maintenance is quite easy. Normally, the maintenance process in plastic drums will be carried out every 2 years to ensure trouble-free operation when there is a rising water.

This young architect said the idea is aimed at the ultimate goal of solving difficulties and helping people to partly reduce worries of flood season as well as increasing sea level rise.

"In the face of increasingly harsh and unpredictable climate change, including floods, people cannot resist but need to adapt to climate change, living with floods, watching floodwater with a friend rather than an enemy " , Minh Hoang explained.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh My commune, Thap Muoi district assessed: The model is located on the pond surface, so it is suitable for homestay tourism, environmentally friendly. On the other hand, in terms of application, this idea can save land area and is a highly convenient housing design for people in flooded areas, including Dong Thap.

With outstanding features, this is considered a feasible solution for the Mekong Delta, because in this area only 0.8m higher than sea level and the rate of subsidence is complicated. magazine every year.

The project "Adapted amphibious houses in the Mekong Delta region" of young architect Nguyen Minh Hoang won the third prize in the National Entrepreneurship Competition 2018.
