US Army develops self-destructible ammunition for safety
New ammunition technology will help reduce civilian casualties in combat zones.
According to RT, the US military has recently applied for a patent for a new type of ammunition to reduce casualties among civilians in the war zone.
Idea experiments have revealed the significant benefits of self-destructive ammunition.
As wars in urban areas occur more frequently, bullets that range beyond the initial target will endanger the people living in the area. The concept of "limited range ammunition" by the US military was integrated with the flares to detonate a few seconds after firing, making the bullets not out of the intended range.
"We want to safeguard both the interests and position of the United States," says the ARDEC Research and Development Center .
The self-destruct idea is intended for use with .50 cal., But theoretically it can be used on a variety of guns of various sizes, including small arms. Idea experiments have revealed the significant benefits of self-destructive ammunition, including the reduction of casualties for unwanted targets.
Inventors claim that the maximum travel distance of a bullet can be altered based on the fuel's choice of shotgun. At present, the project has been suspended research capital, but the authors also expressed hope that new bullet technology will soon reappear.
