The project to deploy the application of Formosat-2 satellite data to study the southern coastal region has been the international project 'satellite application to the knowledge economy' (international marine resource conservation working group) - MRCWG - chairperson) accepts and sponsors implementation in Vietnam.
According to Mr. Nguyen Phi Khuc - Institute of Applied Mechanics of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the project will deploy the application of satellite image data technology Formosat-2 to study: assessing coastal pollution due to oil spill and dirty waste sources from the mainland; planning, managing mangrove forests and ecotourism; wave modeling - flow and pollution spread along the coast; marine meteorological monitoring, coastal disaster monitoring, especially coastal erosion problems; Human resource training for related industries.
Mr. Khau also said that the scope of taking the Formosat-2 satellite image data is about 24x160km, located in the scan area of the satellite from Can Gio (Ho Chi Minh City) to Can Tho. Satellite images, worth about $ 3,800 / photo, will be taken every day, continuously for three years.
