Russia launched Iran's first satellite
Russia will launch Iran's first satellite into space next week. The satellite is thought to be used for telecommunications and to study natural disasters.
Kayhan quoted the Iranian government representative in Moscow as saying that Iran's Sina satellite will be launched from the Plesetsk launch center next Thursday with three other Russian, Chinese and British satellites.
Iranian officials have repeatedly repeated that they are approaching to consider launching their first artificial satellite. In July, former Deputy Minister of Telecommunications Iran Hassan Shafti said a telecommunications satellite codenamed "Mesbah" (Lantern) will be launched this year.
He said Iran planned to build five satellites, three of which will be launched within the next three years.
