Use ultraviolet rays to avoid enemies
The flat lizard Augrabies has been discovered by biologists from MacQuarie University (Australia).
Unlike the reptiles, this lizard has a very sophisticated territorial and anti-enemy defense mechanism. Their bodies have vivid colors that contain many photosensitive organs that can absorb ultraviolet rays. Especially in each lizard Augrabies males have an array of skin on their neck that is able to reflect very strong ultraviolet rays, which help convey information about their health and status.
Behavioral signaling studies have shown that the throat patches of stronger males reflect clearer and stronger ultraviolet rays than weaker males. In addition, flat lizard Augrabies are up to 3 times more sensitive to ultraviolet rays than similar species. By distinguishing colors on the neck, smaller ones will have to retreat to avoid the possibility of losing when they gain territory. This color also helps children find partners who have better fertility.
