How to deal ultraviolet rays in the hot season

The hot days make people's lives turn upside down. In Ho Chi Minh City, UV index (ultraviolet rays) is quite dangerous. On May 5, the medical expert gave advice to the community to prevent the health events caused by ultraviolet rays.

According to Dr. CKI Hoang Van Minh, Head of Dermatology Clinic of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, UV rays have 3 types: A, B, C. The UVA beam with 315 - 380nm wavelength, can penetrate cloud, air, cause skin aging. UVB rays with a wavelength of 280 - 315nm, causing sunstroke, damage to darken the skin. UVC rays have a wavelength of 100 - 280nm, causing skin cancer but have ozone blocking. People are often exposed to UVA (90%) and UVB (10%). The time of UV rays: morning, afternoon, evening, sunny or cloudy, rainy, always available, the strongest intensity is at 10 to 14-15 hours.

When there is a need to go out, use sunscreen, or remember to mask, wear a sunscreen to prevent UV rays.

Dr. Minh advised there are 3 preventive measures. The first is the physical method: a wide-brimmed hat, more than 2.5cm wide, covering two-thirds of the face; use parachute, dark-colored glasses, black, covered mask; mask: covered face, leave 2 eyes wearing glasses, use black, dark (effective against sun 90%, light-colored masks only work against sunshine 60%), thick fabric, cross-woven. The blue medical mask only works against dust, is too thin, has no sun protection effect; avoid sun in shade, shade trees.

The second measure is the use of cream: SPF (UVB protection, * or + mark against UVA rays); It is necessary to choose a sunscreen with both of these properties to be able to fight both UVA and UVB rays (the higher the SPF, the longer the protection, but if it is too high it will cause skin irritation).

Note: when using sunscreen: apply 15 - 20 minutes before going out in the sun, sunscreen only lasts 2-3 hours, then wash your face and reapply new cream to protect good defense, otherwise it is easier to cause sunburn.

For those who work in a marine environment, wet or sweaty, use a waterproof sunscreen, reapply the cream once every 1 - 30 hours. Some side effects of sunscreen can irritate the skin, applying too much can cause loss of absorption of vitamin D.

The last solution is to be able to use sunscreen: it works from the inside out so the protection time is longer; drink 30 minutes to 1 hour before repeating every 6 hours; often drink in the morning, noon; Cost more expensive.
