Video: Death cracks devour the river after a night

The Atoyac River in the eastern state of Mexico's Veracruz suddenly dried up after only one night when the giant cracks appeared in the river.

According to RT, residents in the area said they heard a loud explosion and felt the ground shake on the night of March 6. The very next day, they discovered something unusual about the river.

"Yesterday morning, we saw the river water stop flowing. We looked at the situation and found a crack that had sucked the river," said Juana Sanchez, a local resident.

Cracks are about 30m long and 20m wide. According to geologists, the reason is due to the region's unstable limestone base.

In less than two days, cracks in the river Atoyac swallowed up almost all of the river water. The group of geologists from the Civil Defense Agency and the Mexican National Water Commission technician came to the site to check for cracks.
