The Doubs River, more than a kilometer long, flows between Pontarlier and Morteau in Franche-Comté Province, France, completely dry from last week, despite the abundant rainfall, Strange Sounds reported yesterday. The river disappeared with flora and fauna. According to geology, this unprecedented event is caused by cracks and large craters in the riverbed.

The area of the river flowing through only remains of gravel and dead fish. The president of the local fishing association said the latest phenomenon occurred during the severe drought in 1976. The researchers explained that the river bed is made of limestone, so the big crack drains out. River water drops underground like a nozzle. It is possible that many major floods in the spring washed away sediments above cracks and craters.

Two weeks ago, the Risle river, 13km long in Normandy, suddenly disappeared. The cause is said to be due to a large sinking pit appearing in the riverbed.
