Video: Fish kicks in the underwater championship

Researchers at the Shanghai, China Aquarium Park recently hosted a special underwater ball game with a cichlid player.

22 fish are divided into blue and yellow teams. The fish move in a special aquarium covered with plastic grass, design of the poles, corner flags, restricted area and a large piece of ball-shaped food.

A black fish with distinct white stripes is put into the fish tank to be the referee."It's like a referee in a football game, because this fish is highly territorial. When another fish swims back, it will chase away. When chasing the fish of two teams, this action similar to a referee running after a player who blames and holds a red card or yellow card , " CRI quoted Yang Yong, a member of the research team, as saying.

In the match, the fishes of the two teams cannot move the "ball" but instead enjoy this special dish. The match ended without any goals being scored.

According to the researchers, yellow and green cichlids are chosen to participate in the match especially because they tend to swim near the bottom of the aquarium.
