Video: Japan's largest volcano

Dozens of flights yesterday were interrupted when Japan's largest active volcano erupted, lifting up 1,000-meter-high haze of dust and rocking everywhere.

>>>Volcanoes unexpectedly erupt, causing many deaths in Japan

Aso volcano on Kyushu island, southwestern Japan, is one of the largest active volcanoes in the world. It shook from November 25 and began spraying 1,000 meters of dusty columns a day later.

Dust fumes raced down the ground in Bungo-Ono City of Oita Prefecture and Gokase Town in Miyazaki Prefecture, about 40km from the volcano location. The layers of rock splashed into the air about 200m and the forecast could affect areas within a kilometer radius. This is the first time that volcanic eruptions have shot rock since 1995.

According to RT, the volcanic eruption of Aso caused the airlines to cancel 49 flights. Meanwhile, Japanese meteorologists raised warning to level two (on a five-step warning scale) for the residential area in Kumamoto Prefecture, the limit of access to volcanoes at a distance of one kilometer.

Previously, Ontake volcano of Japan "woke up" and erupted on September 27, causing ash to cover down the southern flank more than three kilometers. About 60 people were killed in this unexpected eruption.

After these two cases, questions about the eruption ability of Fuji, Japan's most famous and highest mountain, are being considered. Its most recent eruptions were recorded during the period 1707-1708.

In a recent study, scientists warned of the risk of devastating the lives of 95% of the country's population if a major volcanic eruption occurred in the next 100 years.
