Video: Radiation shield protects astronauts before the solar storm
The waistcoat designed by an Israeli company to protect astronauts from solar radiation in the universe will be tested in the mission to the Moon.
The shirt will be tested on the Orion spacecraft in the mission to fly over the Moon in late 2018.
AstroRad Radiation Shield developed by StemRad company in Tel Aviv, Israel, is a waistcoat made of layers of non-metallic protective materials. "Based on the simulations, we are sure it works but to ensure 100%, we will put it into NASA's Discovery Mission 1 , " Reuters quoted Gideon Waterman, technical director of Stemrad.
