The largest solar storm has reached Earth since 2005
The US weather report said a strong spark from the sun has caused the biggest radiation storm since 2005 and could affect some polar communication satellites.
The event began late on Sunday, January 22, with a medium-sized solar fire exploding near the sun's center, Doug Biesecker, a physicist at the National Ocean Center. and the space atmospheric agency (NOAA) said.
'The fire itself is nothing spectacular, but it freed a stream of light at 6.4 million km / hour)' he told AFP.
A strong stream of radiation in the form of solar protons began bombarding the Earth and could continue until January 25.
This is the biggest magnetic storm since 2005 but still lies at the level of 'strong' rather than 'heavy' , he added.
Biesecker said that the polar regions are most affected by magnetic storms.
For example, the storm may interrupt flights, oil exploration, Arctic exploration and satellites in space.
Those who watch the night sky in Asia and Europe can see aurora, also known as Northern light, at the end of January 24, and that's the result of the storm.
'We do not expect great impact from an event like this,' Biesecker said.
'Only those who need to use GPS with a centimeter precision need to worry, not those who want to get their car forward 30m' .
