Viettel Post uses 200 robots to distribute goods instead of people: Output increases 3.5 times, personnel reduces 60%

This is the first step in Viettel Post's journey to transform into a professional, green and efficient logistics company. In particular, the logistics ecosystem includes logistics management software, app/web system, delivery technology solution chain with weight monitoring, conveyor belt monitoring, smart locks. all developed by the team. 100% Vietnamese engineers and experts.

On January 17, Viettel Post Joint Stock Corporation (Viettel Post) opened Vietnam's first smart sorting technology complex.

The smart sorting technology complex opened by Viettel Post is located in a 32,000 square meter warehouse in Quang Minh (Me Linh, Hanoi), which is introduced as having the highest level of automation in Vietnam. Here, 200 self-propelled goods sorting robots (AGV robots) , a large goods sorting system (Wheel Sorter Matrix) and a conveyor sorting system (Cross-belt Sorter) are used . Viettel Post is the first logistics company in Vietnam to deploy AGV robot technology , thereby increasing the level of automation in Viettle Post's goods sorting and picking process to 99%.

With more than 40 export/import ports, nearly 1,200 split ports, the complex has a processing capacity of up to 1.4 million parcels/day, an increase of 40% compared to before, helping to increase the load capacity of the entire Viettel Post system. up to 4 million parcels/day, equivalent to meeting 50% of e-commerce capacity in Vietnam. The error rate of the complex is almost 0, shortening the entire delivery time from 8-10 hours, increasing output 3.5 times . Thanks to automation, the complex also helps reduce the number of personnel by 60%.

Managing and supervising the operation of the complex is the NOC system that tracks the journey of each order in real time. Smart monitoring system includes Digital Twin technology, AI cameras, controls the status of the entire equipment system and cargo exploitation activities, detects and warns about unusual behavior, helping to handle timely when problems arise.

The logistics ecosystem includes logistics management software, app/web system, weight monitoring delivery technology solution chain, conveyor belt monitoring, smart locks. all developed by a 100% technical team. Vietnamese professor and expert, completed in more than 6 months . Meanwhile, with systems of similar scale, it takes about 2 years for large businesses around the world to deploy them before they can be put into actual use.

More than just a delivery business

Also at the event, Viettel Post said it will not only do well in the delivery field like before but is on the journey to transform itself into a professional, green and efficient logistics company, doing well in key areas. Key points such as logistics parks, smart border gates, cross-border logistics infrastructure, intermodal systems help synchronously connect centers, industrial parks, farming areas,. with road traffic hubs, sea, border gate,.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Trung Thanh - General Director of Viettel Post said that the smart border gate system that Viettel Post plans to deploy will apply cross-border transport technologies using AGV self-propelled vehicles, which can operate in all weather conditions, 24/24 hours, controlled by 5G network, thereby increasing customs clearance capacity by 4-5 times, completely solving border congestion and reducing customs clearance costs by up to 70%.

Meanwhile, the logistics park system will provide a full package of logistics services such as post-harvest preservation technology, customs clearance services, chemical inspection, and quarantine, whose results will be recognized in other countries.

The international railway system will help Viettel Post pull the border gate deep into the inland. Goods will be cleared, inspected, and quarantined at Yen Vien and Song Than stations, avoiding the current situation of dependence on traditional border gates.

General Director of Viettel Post also shared some technologies that Viettel Post is gradually mastering.

Including robot and AGV systems, divided into 3 groups based on function and load. Specifically, robots serving distribution and selection like the center at Quang Minh have a maximum load of 10kg. Second, the AGV system serves storage and retrieval activities in smart warehouses with a load of up to 500kg. Third, self-propelled vehicle system for containers with a load of 20-25 tons, can operate at seaports.

In 2024, Viettel Post will put into operation an exploitation center in Can Tho with sorting technology and a smart warehouse system due to technology completely owned by this enterprise.

In addition, Viettel Post also uses green, energy-saving technologies. The smart warehouse system does not need to turn on the electricity because the entire robot operates in a pre-designed environment in the dark, and does not need to turn on the air conditioner to help save energy .

Smart transport management technology helps manage routing, optimize journeys and vehicle body usage efficiency, monitor vehicles and goods journeys in real time, and applications serve to monitor and analyze vehicle loads. system thereby providing the most reasonable exploitation plan. Currently, Viettel Post is managing about 4,000 vehicles but will increase to 30,000-40,000 vehicles in the near future, running intermodal transport to Southeast Asian countries and China.

"After telecommunications, Logistics will be the next path for Viettel to "Go Global" , Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Trung Thanh said.

Currently, Viettel Post has invested and operated in Myanmar and Cambodia. In 2024, the company will invest and operate in Laos, Thailand and China with a long-term orientation of creating cross-border trade connections. In the second phase of the "Go Global" plan , Viettel Post will research further expansion in Japan, Australia, Europe and the US.

Mr. Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Group emphasized: 'The opening event of Vietnam's first and largest smart sorting technology complex is the first step in the process of building a smart logistics infrastructure. bright. In addition to the two national infrastructures that Viettel has built on the largest and largest scale in Vietnam, which are telecommunications infrastructure and digital infrastructure, Viettel continues to build national logistics infrastructure, contributing to making Vietnam become a logistics center of the region and the world, participating in implementing the goal that by 2025, the logistics industry will contribute 5-6% to GDP."
