Visit the village cold -71 degrees Celsius
The small village of Oymyakon in Russia is a testament to the hard work and endurance of humans, because the weather here is always harsh and the lowest heat ever measured is -71 degrees C.
According to Tech Insider, photographer Amos Chapple began his journey to explore the world's coldest region, inhabited in Yakutsk, the capital of Sakha republic in the northeast of the Russian Federation. The city has about 300,000 inhabitants, and the average temperature in winter is about -34 degrees C.
However, the cold does not hinder the lives of the people here. "They are very friendly, kind, and dressy," Chapple describes. To deal with the cold, they "drink Russian vodka".
Chapple stayed in a small guesthouse in Yakutsk before making friends with the locals and invited them to come home to play.
"I try to cook a treat to thank them, but it's hard to make a plate of fries in this cold area," Chapple said.
People here live well thanks to diamond trading, Chapple said.Yakutsk is the gateway to Oymyakon, famous for being the coldest town on the planet.Chapple took two days to reach Oymyakon.
In order to function well under such low temperature conditions, vehicles here are always in a state of running, and gas stations along the route to Oymyakon are open 24 hours a day. "Workers at the gas station work on a two-week, two-week vacation regime," Chapple said.
The beautiful road leads to Oymyakon village. Chapple was stuck for two days in a small guesthouse called "Cafe Cuba" , lying on a cold wasteland along the way.He eats reindeer soup, drinks hot tea while waiting for another car to go to Oymyakon village.
"The people who let me go look at me with curiosity and a little intimidation. I ate the frozen horse and macaroni with their families, before being transported to Oymyakon village , " Chapple said.
The village entrance is a Soviet-era monument, which marks the lowest record temperature of -71 degrees Celsius in 1924, along with the words "Oymyakon, Extreme Cold Point".
Today, the average temperature in the winter months in the village is about -50 degrees C. In the Siberian Evan language, Oymyakon means "water freezing" , because there are many hot springs throughout the village.
Chapple was stunned by the terrible impact of the cold on the body. "I feel the cold in my hand, clutching my legs. Even saliva sometimes freezes on my lips, like a needle is inserted into my lips, " Chapple said. One day in this environment is really "extremely tired".
Chapple must hold its breath to take pictures, otherwise breaths out like cigar smoke, which cannot be taken.Burial of the dead is not easy, because the soil freezes. Before burial, they had to set a big fire to warm the soil.
Because the ground was so cold, unable to grow vegetables, the people of Oymyakon mainly lived on breeding or working in factories like a thermoelectric plant in the town.
The diet of people is mainly frozen fish, such as salmon, white meat fish, even horse liver. However, meat soup is the main dish.If the temperature drops below -50 degrees Celsius, schools and everywhere will close.
It's cold, but when summer comes, the temperature here is quite high. The record was 35 degrees Celsius. However, the summer months passed very quickly, and the harsh winter came, making the cold seem endless.
