Wedding rings are made of bones themselves

Couples may have the opportunity to give each other wedding rings made from their own bones grown in the laboratory. Such first rings were created in England.

Scientists will take bone cells from wisdom teeth and feed them in a special frame in the laboratory. This is part of a collaboration between scientists and artisans to create fine objects from bone tissue. Specimens will be displayed at the exhibition at Guy's and St Thomas Hospital in London, England.

"It's strange to have my own bones, my material has been transformed into a symbolic precious thing," Harriet said.

Her partner, Matt, commented: "When you think about it, it is more like ivory, but more moral, because the material has never been part of Harriet but only grown from material taken. from her body ".

"That's why some people are so excited that someone feels terrible, but when you look back and think about it, you won't find it scary but it's really clean and pure," Matt said.

Scientists extracted from the participants' wisdom teeth to get a small piece of bone . Then they resolved the bone material and took bone cells to grow in the lab. They are fed with nutrients and developed on a material framework called bio-glass - a special activity that simulates bone material structure.

Scientists said later, the technique could be used to grow larger pieces of bone for patients with cancer or need to replace bone.

"It will improve the health of patients without taking bones from another person," said Dr Ian Thompson at King's University. "So if you have a broken jaw, you won't need to take a rib or somewhere in your body to replace it, but just plant that part in the lab and transplant."

Tobie Kerridge and Nikki Stott, the project's artists, attached bones to silver jewelry in the designs of lovers."It was very meaningful for me to get something out of my body and turn into a precious object , " Harriet sensed.
